Jacquie Barker is a professional software engineer, author, and adjunct faculty member at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. With over 30 years of experience as a software developer and project manager, she has spent the past 17 years focusing on object technology, and has become proficient as both an object modeler and Sun Microsystems certified Java programmer.

Jacquie is the managing member of ObjectStart LLC, an object technology training/mentorship firm, and is also a senior software developer for Technology Associates, Inc. in Herndon, Virginia. Previous employers include IBM, TRW, Digital Equipment Corporation, Price Waterhouse, and SRA International, Inc.

Jacquie earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering with highest honors from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was also inducted into the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society. She later received a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, focusing on software systems engineering, from UCLA, and has subsequently pursued post-graduate studies in information technology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Her best selling book, Beginning Java Objects: From Concepts to Code, published by Apress LP, continues to receive praise from readers around the world. Jacquie's "winning formula" for teaching object fundamentals has led to the adoption of Beginning Java Objects by many universities and advanced placement high school programs as a key textbook in their core IT curricula. Jacquie has subsequently taught courses based on her book for numerous public and private sector clients, including The World Bank, The Nature Conservancy, Logicon Sterling Federal Systems, SAIC, Northrop Grumman Information Technology, and the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Jacquie's second book, Beginning C# Objects (coauthored with Grant Palmer), an adaptation of B.J.O. to the C# programming language, was also published by Apress.

Her latest book, Taming the Technology Tidal Wave: Practical Career Advice for Technical Professionals, is now available through ObjectStart Press.
